2008 Fellowship Elections

MRIA’s Board of Directors have worked diligently through a meticulous review of the former PMRS Fellowship Election process and benchmarked it against the practices of other leading professions. The new process, approved by the Board in early October, retains the best aspects of the PMRS process while making a number of improvements to elevate our approach to that of a true professional Association Fellowship model. The Call For Fellowship Nominations will be issued in October, and the deadline for submissions is January 11, 2008.

VoxPop: You speak. We listen. Things improve.

VoxPopMRIA is introducing a national, multi-faceted information campaign to give voice to Canadians and encourage participation in opinion research. Called VoxPop, or Voice of the People, the campaign will educate Canadians about the value of opinion research – and its power to influence corporate and government decision-makers on everything from public policy advances to new products and services that more truly satisfy people’s needs.

The VoxPop campaign will provide a forum for the opinions of Canadians and showcase the societal value of survey research through a number of initiatives, including a series of national surveys on issues that resonate with broad demographic groups. The results of these studies will be released nationally to media starting in late-October 2007. Other facets of VoxPop include a series of articles, media interviews and speaking engagements that will emphasize the rigorous privacy protection afforded survey respondents by MRIA members and what people can do to ensure that the surveys they have been invited to participate in are legitimate. Staff Announcement - October 2007

We are pleased to announce that Erica Klie has recently joined the Association's staff as Member Services Coordinator. Erica brings to MRIA extensive experience in Customer Service; she also has a strong background in computer software and database applications. She will report to Sylvie Corbeil Peloquin, Manager, Member Services.

In this role, Erica will focus on helping members join the Association or renew their membership, while playing an important role in the development and the maintenance of our member database and of our online Portal applications. She will also coordinate registration to MRIA's events.

By shedding new light on traditional ways of doing, borrowing from different areas and questioning innovation, we will be Exploding Paradigms to provide meaningful, thought-provoking insights. 63rd AAPOR (American Association for Public Opinion Research) conference, May 15-18, 2008
The conference will bring together almost a thousand of the country's leading public opinion research scientists to discuss and analyze the latest research on public opinion and survey methodology, theory, and results.

This year's conference is being held in the fascinating City of New Orleans -- a fitting location given the theme of the Conference: "Polls for the Public Good ".  The city will provide an important case study for conference sessions and speakers who will focus on the ways in which public opinion research since Hurricane Katrina has -- and can continue to be -- used "...for the public good".

Plus, of course, New Orleans provides a setting for the AAPOR conference that is unique in the United States -- with the French Quarter, Jackson Square, Mississippi River, and historical sights all within walking distance of the conference hotel.
