MRIA launches the world's first Charter of
Respondent Rights

On October 3, 2006 the Marketing Research and Intelligence Association held its first ever "Parliament Hill Day" where members of the national Board of Directors and Chapter Presidents met with approximately 25 parliamentarians on key issues of concern to the research industry. This event marks a new proactive phase in MRIA advocacy on behalf of our members and the industry. That same day, MRIA publicly launched the world's first Charter of Respondent Rights, a new public accountability and self-regulatory initiative through which MRIA members articulate their Standards-based commitment to protect the rights of research participants. MRIA would like to thank and recognize Matrix Research Limited and OpenVenue e-Research Solutions, Gold Seal Corporate Research Agency members of the Association, for the vital work they recently carried out, on a pro bono basis, on behalf of MRIA and its members.

When MRIA recently sent out an urgent request for pro bono data collection on national consumer attitudes towards telephone surveys and the soon-to-be-implemented National Do Not Call Registry, Alec Svoboda, CMRP, President of Matrix Research, was the first to answer the call for assistance.

Alec then contacted John Visser, Vice-President, Client Development at OpenVenue e-Research Solutions, and, as a team, the two firms worked to provide MRIA with high quality information within a compressed timeframe.

The insights gained from this research helped to confirm MRIA's messaging for the Parliament Hill Day appointments that national Board members and Chapter Presidents had with MPs and Senators on October 3rd, and for the new Charter of Respondent Rights launched in Ottawa that evening. As well, the findings will be key in guiding MRIA's finalization of a new long-term, public-focused Communications Campaign Plan.

New Member of MRIA Staff Team
MRIA Executive Director Brendan Wycks is pleased to announce that Anne Marie Gabriel has joined the Association's staff as Communications Consultant. In this role, she will focus on implementing the Association's Communications Plan, while overseeing member and external communications including print and web initiatives. Anne Marie's experience in business development, management consulting and corporate communications will help in the delivery of timely communications to members, and in elevating and enhancing the public image and reputation of the market and survey research industry.
