Died peacefully in Ottawa on September 28, 2009, in his 79th year, after a prolonged battle with heart disease. Son of the late Sidney and Eleanor Rusk (nee Richstone) of Montreal, Myron is survived by his younger brother Tom, sister-in-law Judy, niece Natalie, nephews Scott and Carl, and several cousins. He also leaves a wide circle of diverse friends who will sorely miss him, his passion for life and the world around him. Myron was educated at Westmount High School and McGill University in Montreal and obtained a Master of Business Administration from Columbia University in New York City, where he also worked for Colgate Palmolive. He worked as a market researcher for Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, Michigan and McCann Erickson in London, England, before bringing his research expertise to the Government of Canada in Ottawa. A respected market researcher, retired civil servant, traveler, supporter of the arts, and pursuer of causes, Myron was founding and executive member of many community and professional organizations including the Ottawa Chapters of PMRS (now MRIA), American Marketing Association, Civil Liberties Association and the McGill Society of Ottawa. He presented at numerous trade conferences and authored many highly regarded articles in trade journals. He was also an active member of the National Press Club in Ottawa. Myron will be remembered most as a great friend to many. No visitation or funeral service will take place. For those wishing, a donation to a charity of your choice in memory of Myron would be appreciated.

MRIA Provides Groundbreaking Legal Opinion on Digital Fingerprinting to Corporate Members
...Association Exploring Alternative Solutions for Online Research Firms

Digital fingerprinting received widespread attention in the marketing research industry throughout 2008, especially in the online panel research space where this technology application is being deployed.  Until recently, however, relatively little attention has been given to associated privacy issues.

Earlier this year, MRIA’s National Board of Directors unanimously agreed to retain Brian Bowman of Pitblado LLP to prepare a legal opinion on digital fingerprinting. His cogent analysis in his MRIA-commissioned legal opinion cites pertinent clauses in PIPEDA, decisions rendered by our federal courts, and cases heard by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. The legal opinion concludes that digital fingerprinting will increase exposure to liability for companies that use the technology. For complete information, please visit the MRIA website.

Call for Speakers and Presentations
We are inviting you to be a part of the 2010 MRIA Conference in Toronto by submitting a proposal to lead a 45-minute session consisting of a 30-minute presentation followed by 15 minutes of open discussion.

  • Acceptance notification – December 18, 2009
