MEMBERSHIP APPROVES GOVERNANCE BYLAW CHANGES

At MRIA's Special General Meeting in Toronto on September 15, the Association's membership strongly endorsed the four governance-related Bylaw Amendments recommended by the Board of Directors.

Three of the four Bylaw Amendment Resolutions were passed unanimously, while the fourth was passed by a margin of 46 to one.

Thirty-nine MRIA members-in-good-standing attended the Special General Meeting, and eight members voted via proxy.

NOMINATION AND ELECTION PROCESS FOR 2006-07 BOARD KICKS OFF

With the membership's ratification of the Board-recommended Bylaw Amendments at the Special General Meeting on September 15, MRIA's first Nominating Committee is being formed and the nomination and election process for the 2006-07 MRIA Board of Directors is getting underway.

B2B COMMITTEE RECEIVES AFFINITY DIVISION STATUS

The MRIA Board of Directors has approved the B2B Committee's application for Affinity Division status within the Association, effective January 1, 2006.

The B2B Committee has been operating and thriving under PMRS/MRIA auspices for more than two years; it has an extensive Learning Series program that it plans to extend beyond the Greater Toronto Area; and it has several hundred MRIA members keenly interested in its offerings and activities.

Like the Qualitative Research Division (QRD), MRIA's other Affinity Division, the B2B Division will, effective January 1, be a fully recognized, business plan- and budget-preparing Portfolio within MRIA's governance structure. The B2B Board will elect, from among its members, a member to the MRIA Board of Directors, and it will appoint a member to the Association's Nominating Committee each year.


Dec. 31: Final Opportunity for CMRP Grandparenting

In the interests of promoting the fact that MRIA has taken ownership of the Certified Marketing Research Professional designation post-merger, and will continue to maintain, enhance, and champion the designation as a prestigious certification for industry professionals, the MRIA Board of Directors has decided to create one final window of opportunity for qualified candidates to apply to be "Grandparented" to the CMRP, subject to certain conditions. 2005-2006 Course Calendar Released
Welcome to the MRIA School of Marketing Research! This year's program, taught by industry leaders, offers a diverse range of courses at the basic, intermediate, and advanced levels to meet the needs of members, as professionals in the ever-changing marketing research industry.

Similar to last year, the School of Marketing Research will be offering a full slate of courses, including the fundamentals, advanced techniques of both qualitative and quantitative marketing research, and more specialized topics such as competitive intelligence, brand equity, web site usability, semiotics, data mining and focus group moderation.

New this year are four half-day workshops. These seminars are intended for the more advanced marketing research and intelligence professional, as continuing education opportunities. They will not qualify as CMRP elective courses.

Membership Directory to be mailed in October with Vue

MRIA's first printed edition of the national Membership Directory will be mailed with the October issue of Vue.

MRIA's Rules of Conduct and Good Practice for Individual Members and its Standards and Rules of Practice for Corporate Members of the Association have been included in the Membership Directory. Members of the Association are bound by these Codes, so please review them when you receive your Membership Directory.

2005/2006 Season Details
The Prairie Chapter will continue its commitment to education in market research by offering Advanced Techniques of Marketing Research in November 2005, as well Basic Moderator Training in April 2006, in Winnipeg. The Prairie Chapter is also planning half day seminars to address some more advanced market research topics. The Chapter will also continue to offer its popular monthly luncheons series, which started with a presentation by Dr. Malcolm Smith on September 22, 2005.
