MRIA 2009 Conference – it’s a wrap !
We return from Montreal, having experienced a highly successful national conference. Over 330 delegates participated, 28 sponsors supported, 27 exhibitors promoted and 25 presentations enlightened. Delegates now have access to the speaker presentations online, and were advised of their password via email last week.  Very special thanks go to Maxime Bourbonnais of MBA Recherche who mastered the art of conference chair with good humor and record speed in decision making (and delegating!). Over 150 photographs are now available for viewing on the Conference 2009 website, and more photos will be added as they become available.

2009 Excellence in Research Awards – winners announced
At the 2009 National Conference, we celebrated the industry’s finest with a gala dinner on Tuesday, May 26 at the Hyatt Regency in Montréal. This year, 8 recipients went home with the excellence crystals, stunning conversation pieces often exhibited in winners’ reception areas. Special thanks go to John Ball who chaired this year’s judging panel – and to the judges – Jordan Levitin, Don Williams and Keith Neuman. MRIA BC Chapter:
Survey Opportunity – Simon Fraser University Business Analytics Graduate Program

Simon Fraser University (SFU) is planning to develop a Master of Science program in Business Analytics and they are currently collecting industry opinions via online surveys regarding such a graduate program. SFU is hoping to talk to a variety of companies who use analytics to drive business decisions, such as the extensive use of customer/corporate data to create useful metrics and the associated use of analytic methods such as predictive modeling.

Through a short confidential survey, SFU hopes to get valuable feedback on the proposed curriculum, industry’s current use of analytics, and employment prospects for Business Analytics graduates (both practicums and employment). Feedback from companies will ultimately aid in the development of a program which appropriately fits with industry needs and best practices.
