Monday Lunch - Creative Readings
What do market research professionals do in their spare time? What do they do with these creative efforts?

This is an open invitation to all poets, playwrights, novelists, short-story writers, humorists, and essayists to bring a brief sample of their work to Montreal and share it during our annual “Creative Readings” session. The purpose is to share and appreciate—not to evaluate or criticize—in a comfortable, non-threatening setting. No reservations are required to attend as this event will take place during lunch time!

Effective tomorrow, MRIA introduces pro-rated membership dues and fees for first-time members of the Association, which will be available from May 6 to December 31, 2008 at the following discounted rates:

  • New Individual members can join for eight months at the reduced rate of $235 (plus $65 Activation Fee plus GST). Please inform your friends and colleagues in the industry, and enroll your new employees so they can start receiving the benefits of MRIA membership.
  • New Corporate representatives can join for eight months, at the reduced rate of $235 (plus GST), which includes an Individual membership for the Corporate representative (a $65 Initiation Fee still applies). Preferred Research Registration fees have also been pro-rated for this eight-month period.

MRIA members and the Councils and Divisions of the Association have elected or acclaimed seven experienced industry leaders to the Association's National Board of Directors for a two-year term, 2009-10 and 2010-11. These newly elected/acclaimed Board members join eight Directors who are continuing on the Board for the second year of a two-year term.

The Advisory Panel on Online Public Opinion Survey Quality - Final Report
The Department of Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) required a panel composed of practitioners, methodologists and scholars with a high degree of expertise in the field from the private sector, the academic sector, Statistics Canada and Government of Canada departments and agencies that conduct public opinion research to advise on standards and guidelines for public opinion surveys conducted online. National Do Not Call List effective, but challenges remain, VoxPop survey finds
Eight-in-ten Canadians (80%) and more than eight-in-ten Quebecers (83%) who have registered a telephone number with the National Do Not Call List say they now receive fewer telemarketing calls, according to a national VoxPop (Voice of the People) survey by the Marketing Research and Intelligence Association (MRIA). The ground-breaking survey, the first to track the effectiveness of Canada’s no-call list since its launch on September 30, 2008, was designed to give Canadians an opportunity to rate the registry’s effectiveness at blocking unwanted telemarketer calls. La Liste nationale des numéros de télécommunication exclus est efficace, mais des défis subsistent, selon le sondage VoxPop
Plus de huit Québécois sur 10 inscrits sur la LNNTE (83 %) indiquent qu’ils reçoivent maintenant moins d’appels de télémarketing, selon les sondage national VoxPop (voix populaire) de l’Association de la recherche et de l’intelligence marketing (ARIM). Il s’agit du premier sondage qui fait un suivi sur l’efficacité de la Liste des numéros de télécommunication exclus du Canada depuis son lancement, le 30 septembre 2008. Il a été conçu pour offrir aux Canadiens et Canadiennes la possibilité d’évaluer l’efficacité de cette liste pour bloquer les appels non désirés des télévendeurs.
