Make your voice heard in the 2007-08 MRIA National
Board election, and help shape the future of your Association. Consistently
in PMRS National Board elections, and again last year in MRIA's first election,
member voting participation has hovered around 30%. The MRIA Nominating
Committee challenges and encourages all members to make your voice heard,
by exercising your right to elect the leaders of your Association. Let's
set an all-time record for voter participation in this year's Board election!
Response to the Call For Nominations for the 2007-08 Board of Directors
has been outstanding, and there will be contested elections in two Director
MRIA Portal - major strategic initiative
is almost complete
In line with your Association's objective to become
fully self-sufficient within its own dedicated staff team and to eliminate
reliance on Association Management Company support, MRIA embarked on a major
initiative to build a member database-linked Portal and financial system,
to handle all transactions online including membership, events and education
registrations. The Portal will enable us to better serve our members, non-members
and service providers.
While it is difficult to give a definite date for the Portal's
launch, MRIA is in the final stages of validation testing and the new MRIA
Portal will go "live" within the next few weeks. When the Portal
is ready to accept transactions, an Email Notification will be sent, indicating
that our 2007 Membership Renewal Period is underway, along with information
on how to login to the Portal, discounts being offered and the deadlines
In the interim, all members keep their active status and
CMRP designations. More details will follow as the Portal goes "live".
QRRQ - another strategic initiative - contact
Late last year, the MRIA national office took over all administrative
functions relating to the Qualitative Research Registry / Registre de la
recherche qualitative (QRRQ) - including tabulating submissions and processing
payments. The first reports are due out next month, covering the month of
December 2006. Kindly note that all contact information has changed and
all inquiries and submissions should be directed to the MRIA office in Mississauga.

New Service for Corporate User Members: askRUC
The Research Users Council has just put into operation a new
service for Corporate Research Users. askRUC is an exciting new tool
from the MRIA available only to Corporate User members. It's designed to
allow a user/buyer of research services, to reach out to fellow user/buyers
and seek advice, obtain referrals, get reactions to anything that you can
put into an email format query in a secure on-line environment. For the

Ottawa Chapter Intelligence Day: February
Mark your calendars! That's the day of the Ottawa
Chapter's Intelligence Training Day. The program will include a dynamic,
interactive half- day workshop designed to help you build your research
skills into an effective strategic intelligence service and environmental
scan. In two afternoon panels, expert MRIA members will share their intelligence
experience, and intelligence professionals will explore the larger context
of intelligence activities. The full day event is $99 members and $129 for
