Bernie Malinoff, CMRP

Bernie is President of element54, a provider of full-service solutions, spanning concept development/enhancement, market structure/ segmentation, and marketing effectiveness testing/tracking. Our client sectors include loyalty programs, retail, CPG, financial services, Government, lottery & gaming, airlines and health/pharma. element54 also provides strategic consulting and training workshops to leading North American companies, and Provincial/Federal Governments/ departments. Prior to launching element54 in 2008, Bernie held executive positions with Ipsos and Vision Critical.

element54 initiated groundbreaking research into Online survey design - “Sexy Questions, Dangerous Results?” and “Eyes Don’t Lie” (2009/2010), which have shaped industry dialogue and consciousness around the complex issues of Rich Media/2.0 technologies in survey research.

Bernie has spoken at a cross-section of high profile conferences in 2009/2010, including the MRIA (Toronto, Ottawa & Montreal), The Market Research Event (Las Vegas), Advertising Research Foundation (New York), CASRO (New York) and the MRA (Boston).

In 2010, Bernie was nominated for the Next Generation Marketing Research (NGMR) “Disruptive Innovation” Award. He is a Past-President of the MRIA Québec Chapter, and sessional lecturer at McGill University on Marketing and Research issues.

Don Mills, CMRP

As President and Co-founder of Corporate Research Associates, Don is one of Canada’s leading public opinion and market research professionals with over 30 years in the industry. 

He is a qualified expert witness in the field of public opinion and market research and has appeared before numerous boards, commissions and judicial courts, including the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia.  Don is frequently a guest commentator on radio and television on public opinion issues.
Actively involved in the research industry he was the founding President of the Marketing Research & Intelligence Association (MRIA) and was Past President of the Canadian Association of Marketing Research Organizations (CAMRO).   Currently he is a member of MRIA Legal Education Committee and The Government Relations Committee.

Don has been active in the community throughout his career and has served in a variety of Boards including the Halifax International Airport Authority, the YMCA, Dalhousie University, the Halifax Chamber of Commerce (Past Chair), the Greater Halifax Partnership (Past Chair), Ashburn Golf Club, the United Way, the Canadian Parents for French, the Help Line, and the Arthritis Society.  He is currently; Board Member of Laing House, the Atlantic Institute for Market Studies (AIMS), and Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame; Advisory Committee Member of Uniterra and NovaKnowledge, member of the Board of Trustees for the YMCA, as well as member of the Board of Directors for the Office Interiors Group, Poly Cello, and Total Marketing and Communications Ltd. (Bermuda).

Don was inducted into the Atlantic Business Magazine Top 50 CEO Hall of Fame in its inaugural year in 2005. As well he was selected 2001 Business Person of the Year in Metro Halifax by the Halifax Chamber of Commerce and was runner-up in 2006. Corporate Research Associates has been named one of The Best Places to Work in Atlantic Canada five years running, most recently in 2010 by Progress.  In 2009, Don was named Fellow of the Marketing Research and Intelligence Association of Canada (FMRIA) and has received the Bishop’s University Award of Merit in 2009, one of only 20 to ever receive this award.

Gary Bennewies is the President & CEO of Ipsos’ business in Canada, and is responsible for overseeing the company’s activities across a broad range of clients from various industry sectors such as; consumer products, healthcare, energy, financial services, retail, agriculture, telecommunications and emerging technology.

Gary has been involved in the market research business for 25 years.  He started his career as a research professional at the Angus Reid Group in Winnipeg.  He relocated to Toronto in 2000 where he has focused on building Canada’s leading market research company.

Angus Reid is Chief Executive Officer of Vision Critical, a global digital software company that specializes in tools and services for marketing research and polling. Vision Critical is one of the fastest growing technology companies in North America and the largest Canadian owned research enterprise.

Reid was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, and received his early education in Vancouver.  He earned a B.A. and an M.A. in Sociology from the University of Manitoba, and in 1974 he received a Ph.D. in Sociology from Carleton University in Ottawa. 

Angus Reid has been the recipient of a Canada Council Doctoral Fellowship, the National Health Research Scholar Award, the Davidson Dunton Award for Carleton University’s graduate of the year, the Entrepreneur of the Year Award (Services Category), and the annual award of distinction from the Canadian Public Affairs Association.  He holds honorary doctorates from the University of Manitoba (1996), Simon Fraser University (2002) and Carleton University (2008). In 2010 he was inducted into the Canadian Marketing Hall of Fame.

A speaker, commentator and author, Dr. Reid has delivered hundreds of addresses to professional and business audiences in Canada and the United States. In 1996 Doubleday published his Canadian best-seller; Shakedown: How the New Economy is Changing our Lives. The Angus Reid poll (a division of Vision Critical) features regular reports on public opinion trends.

Angus Reid lives in West Vancouver with his wife Margaret. 

Tom H. C. Anderson

Tom is Founder of market research and text analytics firm Anderson Analytics (Developers of OdinText). He was named one of the industry’s “Four under 40” market research leaders by the American Marketing Association in 2010, and was the first to promote the use of text analytics within marketing research.

Tom is also prominent blogger, recognized authority on social media, and the founder of Next Gen Market Research (NGMR), the most popular networking group for market researchers on the Web. He lectures regularly at universities and industry conferences, and has published widely in trade journals and decision science publications. Tom holds an MBA from the University of Connecticut and a Master of Economics from Lund University, Sweden.
